What’s an Overhaul?

*/?>

Our most popular watch repair service is a complete overhaul. Your watch is a complicated piece of machinery, and like any precision instrument, needs periodic maintenance to keep working to factory specifications. Think of an overhaul like an oil change and tune up for your watch. Most Swiss watch brands recommend a complete overhaul every five years to keep the watch in perfect working condition, though the period of time between overhauls will vary depending on how the watch is used and the conditions under which it operates. If you are frequently exposing your watch to dust, dirt, liquid, etc. you might want to service your watch more frequently than if your watch is operated in more pristine conditions.

During an overhaul, your watch is completely disassembled and every part is meticulously checked and repaired/replaced when necessary. The watch is demagnetized and all functions of the watch are tested and repaired. All components are cleaned and lubricated, the gaskets are checked and replaced, and the watch is reassembled. Then the watch is adjusted for accuracy and pressure tested to ensure water resistance.  See the video below for an overview of a Breitling overhaul.

An overhaul is a very complex and manual process that should only be performed by highly trained watchmakers that are certified by your watch’s manufacturer. The process takes many hours to complete and typically costs several hundred dollars, reflecting the cost of both manufacturer approved parts and the specialized labor of a certified watch maker. At Govberg Watch Repair, we utilize only the best trained technicians that have been certified to work on your watch brand. We offer authorized overhaul service on the top luxury brands including Rolex, Breitling, Omega, Patek Philippe, TAG Heuer, IWC, and many, many more. All Govberg Watch Repair overhauls are backed by our 1 year warranty on all parts replaced as part of the overhaul service.

About the repair
I received my watch. It looks great and works great. Thank you very much.

I've been very pleased with the service, web site, price/value, and shipping...I had 2 watches in for repair and the convenience of a web-based company can not be underestimated. When I did need to speak with a live person, I was greeted by a very respectful, knowledgeable and helpful associate. These qualities ensure a long lasting relationship, which is key, especially when providing service to clients with watches in the $10,000-20,000 range. Kudos to all!
